Why I’m Going Xbox One…For Now

Why I’m Going Xbox One…For Now

I’m going to clarify something here real quickly, before people decide to shove their hatred, and narrow mindedness down my throat. I am getting both of the next-gen consoles, I’d like to experience both, and each of them have exclusives I’m interested in, and excited for. I’m not choosing sides, nor do I think one console should fail, and that one should triumph over the other. I’m a gamer, and I’d love to see both succeed, and would never wish for either to fail. People have different preferences about their platform, and that’s totally okay.

Sony fan? Awesome, I really hope you enjoy the PlayStation 4. I really do. Xbox fan? Fantastic, I also hope you enjoy your experiences with your new console. I’m not going to shit on anyone for their gaming preference, as long as they can be mature about the whole thing, and grasp the fact that everyone has different tastes, and different opinions. I have friends who are extremely loyal to Sony, and friends who are loyal to Microsoft. There’s no reason to hate somebody, or throw insults at them because they don’t like what you like, and that they prefer another product.

For example, I really, really love Dr. Pepper but if someone hates it, and who knows says they prefer Mountain Dew I’m not going to crucify them, insult them, or anything childish of the sort. I’ll respect their opinion, and live with it.

Let’s get on to what I’m here to talk about though, and move away from my little rant. I’m picking up the Xbox One first just because I loved my experiences with my Xbox 360, and would love to carry those experiences over to the next Xbox product with the One, I’m also a little more excited about the exclusives for the console itself, but that doesn’t mean I’m not excited for things on the PS4, because I am. There’s exclusives for that console that also capture my attention, and are the reason I’ll be picking up that console sometime next year.

I’m just a wee more excited for the exclusives on the Xbox One. Forza 5, Titanfall (even though we’ll see it on 360, and PC), Crimson Dragon, Dead Rising 3, etc. I really want to experience these games and it’s my main reasoning for getting the Xbox One, well that and most of the friends I game with are getting the console as well. Biased? Maybe a little, but we’re all a little biased when it comes to the things we love. However, that doesn’t mean I hate Sony and their products, or hope their console fails miserably. I don’t. When I was younger I was a huge Sony fan, and I owned the original PlayStation and loved that console with a burning passion, I just kind of gradually grew apart from the PSOne, and sadly never owned a PS2, or PS3 (something I plan on rectifying very soon. Last Of Us looks too good).

So, I’m getting the Xbox One as my primary choice for this next-generation of consoles, and gaming but that doesn’t mean I’m going to ignore the PS4. I’m getting both consoles, and plan and expect great times, and memories from both of those systems. Hopefully people can stop being so arrogant of people’s opinions about this matter, and understand that we all have different preferences, and opinions. There’s just, sadly less I’m excited for about the PS4 to warrant a purchase at this point in time, but again I do plan on dropping the money sometime in 2014 once the console has been out for a while, and some more games have dropped.

Plus, I’d rather wait for some of those indie titles to drop like Octodad, and the new Primal Carnage game. This next-generation is going to be fantastic, and I already know myself, and others will enjoy both consoles. Why insult people for their tastes?

I do, I’ve played PS2 games but I was with a welfare family when the console launched. Never got the chance to get one when I was younger.

    Great article,

Glad to see that some people can approach the topic without 1 sided fanboy craziness. I’m with you on the exclusives for now. Also there’s Killer Instinct, and as a fighting game fan that’s something I’m totally pumped for.

You’ve never owned a PS2 or 3 which means your opinion has less relevancy to gamers.

Well, it seems people do enjoy my opinions. I didn’t own the consoles, but I’ve played numerous games on them.

    Good article!

I feel the exact same way. I keep up to date with all the gaming news as it’s exciting times, but I’m so bored of all the hatred flying around in the comments sections. Surely a new generation consoles is great all round – even better that it’s all happening at once and not a big gap like last time.

I’m also getting an xbox one – purely down to the launch games and the controller. I can’t wait for forza, and have held off on assasins creed, bf4 etc to experience them properly.

As soon as uncharted and infamous are out I’m getting a PS4 because they will be awesome. I’ve got a ps3 now but I only really bought that initially for blu ray, but have since enjoyed some of my best gaming moments, in uncharted 2 and 3, the last of us, motorstorm in 3d, and journey. If you haven’t played those already you really should. PS4 will be great, xbox one will be great. Can’t we all just get along?!

    Enjoy the launch

I could have told you no matter how mature you came towards this article these guys were going to hate you for liking xbox one over anything sony related

some will be adults but most will just spew hate i’ve chosen to wait it out on purchasing a console because xbox one has the better launch titles but their policies beforehand scared me and ps4 doesn’t interest me”yet” so I’m going to wait

You can probably be pretty confident in a PS4, as Sony has 16 first party studios that pretty consistently put out good games.

That’s cool, Forza and Ryse looks awesome and the Xbone interface looks slick.. I hope you enjoy it. It’s too bad you haven’t had a chance to experience what Sony has to offer. While MS has a couple of exclusives that interest me , they don’t have anything that compares to what Sony offers for me. It’s a great time to be a gamer though.

Funny enough, after writing this piece I got a chance to play a PS4 at Future Shop. The console feels solid.

Ok , so you haven’t owned all the console’s so maybe not an experienced pro, even if you did it wouldn’t change the ps4s launch titles. It seems like every Tom Dick and Harry is posting about the new consoles but I don’t see how this got onto ng4. This is more like a personal blog or Facebook post as at best its an average Joe’s opinion. But on the whole I agree about fanboys but you must understand, these are either loutish kids who would cry if you slapped them or inadequate geeks who would also ahahah.

eh I was on 360 too, but just picked a PS4 and its pretty sweet
    Main reasons I switched?
-All my friends were moving from xbox to PlayStation,
    -It was cheaper
-psn was a better deal, so many free games
-Sonys owns something like 16 first party studios and they consistaly put out games worth buying were as I really only cared about *gears of war which is not owned by ms) and halo (which boring after halo 4) on xbox
-More geared towards gamers. Have no use for the TV stuff
-Perception… what xbox is doing, they’re kind of marketing themselves towards older people, like console is not very mobile, (more like a cable box) more focus an a well rounded experience rather than going hard on games…. its kind of what PS3 was doing last gen, which made Sony well ….kind of lame back then too.

I dunno I might pick up an Xbone, if the price drops and they get games that are worth buying, but for now I can just play Titan Fall on my computer.

      You know what…..

These are all actually pretty good points.

I want a PS4 to see what Sony Santa Monica, Naughty Dog and Sony Bend do

I sold my 360 last year and bought a ps3 after the last of us came out, seeing just how Sony is very cognizant of what the gaming community wants, I doubt I’d ever go back.

Great article, it just sucks that you have to say all of that fanboy disclaimer stuff JUST because you prefer the Xbox One at this time. Had you wrote an article saying you prefer PS4 no one would criticize you, and you wouldn’t need to assure everyone your not a fanboy. I think that is the problem with gaming right now, Sony fans have gotten out of control and they are stifling the free speech of anyone writing about games. This will only end when the profession of game journalism stands up and calls them out in unison. Fan boys are on both side, but we need to be honest with ourselves we all know its far worse on the Sony side, and it needs to stop NOW.

Gotta love the fanboy hate, the most comments on an article yet, for me it is the exact opposite, i am raised on all the sony systems. So for me it will be a PS4.

Oh and to join on the bandwagon. You Xbox fanboy! :P

I hope some games will have online gameplay across the systems.
