Missed Call: Deadpool

Missed Call: Deadpool

I never got to check out last year’s Deadpool videogame by Highmoon Studios until a few days ago and I have to say I’m quite surprised by how much I’m enjoying the game. It takes everything from my favorite comic-book character and allows me to control him in a videogame. I feel like a kid on Christmas morning, except there’s a plethora of breasts, blood, and people being beheaded.

It has to be said though, I’ve never really dabbled with Marvel comic-book inspired video games before. Counting this Deadpool game I’ve only ever played Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions and Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro. So, you could say my experience with the video games of the Marvel universe is quite lacking.

I’ve just finished the game and I can safely say I had a blast overall. Aside from how meh the combat can feel at times I’m still having a hoot dicing up some bad-guys, and just playing as the Merc with the Mouth in general. I love me some Deadpool, and Nolan North does a fabulous job doing the voice-work. I’d be entirely okay with more Deadpool centric games.

That being said, his cameo in Shattered Dimensions was pretty fantastic. The upgrade system was cool, and the “toilet” humor really suits the game and the character really well. If I had to listen to someone make dick and fart jokes for 5 hours I’d most certainly pick Deadpool. It just works so well for him.

I know some critics weren’t too pleased with the game and I can see some of the reasons why they may of had gripes with the game in general. Mainly I get that feel from how repetitive and shoddy the combat can feel at times. Other than that I thought everything else was done pretty well.

I also imagine you have to be a hardcore Deadpool fan to actually enjoy this game. Most people would probably be turned off from the offensive humor, gigantic breasts, and probably the insane amount of fourth-wall breakage but that’s just our beloved Deadpool and how he works. However, I think I’m gonna read some of my Deadpool comics and dip into some more superhero games. I have an itch that needs scratching.
