The licenses for most major football leagues and tournaments have been held by EA. Most would of expected EA to make a new game/DLC based on this year’s UEFA Euros, but they no longer have the license.

Konami have pulled a Leicester City and surprised everyone by revealing PES 2016: UEFA Euro. This is the first time Konami has had the chance to create a game with the license. In the same way EA released a Euros expansion for Fifa 12, Konami will release a Euro 2016 expansion for PES 2016, free of charge for owners of the game.

It’s not all great news however. With 34 teams available to play,15 fully licensed (England, Wales, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Croatia, Slovakia, Iceland, Turkey, Albania, Northern Island and France) and 10 still unlicensed, there’s a fair amount to choose from. Players will still have access to all the expected modes and options. Co-op, custom tournaments, Exhibition mode and the like.

The expansion will allow players to pick one country and chase down International glory through the Cup mode. Group stages, knock out stage, and of course, the final.

Konami have only recreated one of the ten venues at this year’s event, the Stade De France. It’s a little disappointing that there’s not more stadiums, especially when compared to EA’s past efforts. At least this expansion costs nothing.
