The Origins of Pokemon GO: From Travel Apps To Real World CTF

The Origins of Pokemon GO: From Travel Apps To Real World CTF

Pokemon Go is currently engulfing the world, but it didn’t just pop out of no where. While many will give credit to Nintendo, it’s actually all down to Niantic. Initially a start up under Google, Niantic’s ideas and craft have been around for a fair time now. Field Trip, a location based application , built the framework for what would come. Its purpose was simple, guide its users to unique things and ‘cool’ places around the area. Niantic followed Field Trip up with their first game named Ingress. Release in 2013 on Android and 2014 on iOS, Ingress was a augmented reality game which pitched two factions against each other....

Curious Challenge Limited By Design – Furi Review (PC)

Curious Challenge Limited By Design – Furi Review (PC)

Difficulty in video games has garnered a love/gate relationship. By their very nature, difficult games spilt people down the middle between those able to play and those who crumble. Furi does not care about those people who crumble, it revels in their failings. At the heart of the game, Furi is the accumulation of various old school elements fused with 80s synth music and anime. The results are a odd buffet of success and failures, but undeniable charm. Furi focuses of the game is 1-on-1 combat, complete with their own dramatic build ups. It knows what it wants to be, it’s confident in its approach, even when things don’t turn...

Polygon Enjoy Another Slice of Shady Behaviour

Polygon Enjoy Another Slice of Shady Behaviour

It’s been a fair while since the term ‘clickbait’ was legitimately used, but it seems like the term is relevant in the case of some big sites. Recently, the FTC discovered that Warner Bros Interactive had paid Youtubers to promote their game. This bizarrely surprised many people. It’s hardly a new concept, paid sponsorship has been a thing for years now. Back in 2014, there was a grey area in which not everyone discoloured the fact they were paid to promote products. Heck, the beauty side of youtube was rife with such issues. The chances are your favourite Youtuber has enjoyed a few sponsored dollars or pounds. The key is...

From Skill To Skins & Scams – The Changing Faces of Counter-Strike

From Skill To Skins & Scams – The Changing Faces of Counter-Strike

At this point, everyone has heard about the scummy behaviour surrounding Counter-Strike GO gambling and two bell ends exploiting the trust of their tween fans. It oddly says a fair amount about the current state of Counter-Strike, a series once treasured as the retreat from the gimmicks of main stream multiplayer. Counter-Strike is one of the most important video games ever. Its MOD roots grew from the thriving scene in the 90′s, a scene that incubated so many great ideas and talents. There’s no short cuts or gimmicks to Counter-Strike, it was the most raw version of team based multiplayer. Skill was king, communication and team work was vital, a...

The Motivation To Play Overwatch Is Slowly Dwindling

The Motivation To Play Overwatch Is Slowly Dwindling

Overwatch isn’t just a game at this point, it’s became a culture. So many communities spawning from the game, a gigantic sub-reddit…and all those memes. The game has done what most Blizzard games do, become more than ‘just a game’. The confusing thing for me is this, Overwatch is becoming less enjoyable as time rolls on. It’s not that I dislike the game, far from it in fact. Each week seems to produce more annoyances without fail. Toxic team mates, players who refuse to play and the meme masters. Oh yes, the players who just want to be really cool and funny by playing awful (on purpose) while spamming memes...

Battleborn Now Needs To Go Free-To-Play

Battleborn Now Needs To Go Free-To-Play

Battleborn’s continued free-fall into irrelevance is a little saddening, but not all that unexpected. Poor marketing and a release window choice never left the game with much hope to truly succeed. The fact is, Battleborn isn’t a ‘bad’ game, it’s just been utterly buried. Given a fair chunk of the game is multiplayer, the current player numbers leave the game in a very poor state. Things haven’t really improved either. The addition of microtransactions left the player base, albeit a small one, rather bitter. It was always one positive the game had, you couldn’t just pay your way to an advantage. How does the game go from dead in the...

Evolve Stage 2 Is One Of The Best Free-To-Play Games Around

Evolve Stage 2 Is One Of The Best Free-To-Play Games Around

Evolve has gone free-to-play, it’s something many expected and predicted. The original retail release was bogged down with pre-order content, retailer exclusives and season pass trickery. Things were so messy that charts were created in order for customers to see what they’re money entitled them to. The backlash was glorious, people widely rejected the game and bemoaned the DLC heavy model. Evolve’s player base tanked, barely reaching respectable numbers. Turtle Rock Studios still produced content, but what was the point if no one was playing? Known as Evolve Stage 2, the new free-to-play format is exactly what the game needed. Evolve was never a bad game, it was just bogged...

Should Known Scammer ProSyndicate Still Be Part Of EGX 2016′s Line Up?

Should Known Scammer ProSyndicate Still Be Part Of EGX 2016′s Line Up?

*As of yet, Eurogamer have no comment to make on the situation. Post will be updated whenever/if ever they do* Eurogamer Expo/EGX has been one of the most enjoyable events i’ve been to. They’ve supplied me with press passes in the past, which i am grateful for, but this is a topic that i feel must be covered. The event has a lot of young children/early teens in attendee, mostly for the guest youtubers. Recent events had led me to express a little concern on the topic…   Syndicate, a well known Youtuber, has been exposed as a scammer. His links to CS GO Lotto have left him in a...

Monster Hunter Stories Amiibo Line Revealed

Monster Hunter Stories Amiibo Line Revealed

Monster Hunter Stories, the spin off from the main series, is getting its own set of Amiibo. The cutesy looking version of the brilliant Capcom series is coming to Nintendo systems in the future, resulting in some rather nice looking Amiibo. There’s only three in the set, at least for now.  As of yet, the three Amiibo have only been confirmed for sale in Japan (starting this December). It would be disappointing if they never made it to Europe. Monster Hunter Stories has no UK release date…hopefully that changes in the coming future. It’ll be interesting to see well Monster Hunter translates to a turn based RPG.  ...

Ubisoft Celebrates Their 30th Anniversary By Giving Away Splinter Cell

Ubisoft Celebrates Their 30th Anniversary By Giving Away Splinter Cell

One of the better titles in their library, Splinter Cell still holds up to modern video games. The game that kick started a franchise that would gift us such joys as Chaos Theory and Pandora Tomorrow, Splinter Cell is available for absolutely nothing. Released in 2002, Splinter Cell ushered in the Ubisoft Tom Clancy era. Originally created to compete with Metal Gear Solid, Splinter Cell grew into its own beast. Even today the lighting system still impresses. The only catch is you need to be part of the Ubisoft Club to take advantage of the offer. That only requires you a quick sign up to the service free of charge. Splinter...
