Assassin’s Creed IV Captured My Imagination
I haven’t put much time into Assassin’s Creed IV (expect a review in a few days) but from what I’ve played so far it’s shaping up to be my favorite game of the series at the current point in time.
Usually, I’ve been known to really have some gripes with the series as a whole and had quite a strong distaste for the first game, but really enjoyed the sequel which introduced the fan favorite assassin, Ezio. I eventually quit playing that game when I was pushing near the end, and have had the issue of losing interest half-way through or so with every other game since and eventually came to playing Assassin’s Creed III which is the actual first game in the series that I had completed, which confuses me as that game wasn’t too good, and Connor as a character was highly unlikable.
Before everyone starts crucifying me for never finishing the games before III, let it be known that I sunk a lot of time into the games previous and eventually lost interest in the stories and characters after a certain point and never picked the games back up to finish. I don’t even know what pushed me to make III the first of the games to play all the way through, and complete and it often makes me realize I should probably go back and finish up the rest of the games in the franchise that I’ve missed, and especially since Liberation is coming to consoles in January.
I also really enjoyed Brotherhood and would really like to see what happens in the remaining few hours that I missed out on. I did also pick up Revelations but quit playing after an hour and never went back. That game lost my interest right away and I still can’t figure out why. I think when I get paid this coming weekend I’ll go back and check out the other games in the series and commit to finishing them.
However, I recently received a copy of Black Flag and that game hooked me right away unlike previous titles in the series and I’m really enjoying the time I’ve had with the game so far. I think it’s because I’m such a massive fan of pirates, and the game really feels like it’s satisfied that itch so far. I really enjoy Edward Kenway as a character, and at the point in time may be my favorite assassin that we get to play as (sorry Ezio fans), but my opinion could really change when I spend a little more time with Ezio.
The setting for the game is really intriguing too. I love the whole “tropical” theme, and the visuals look really good, considering I’m playing on a last-gen console now. Again, it’s probably odd for me to praise this game so much when I never finished most of the games, and lost interest in them so quickly but this game captured my attention right away and at the time of writing this article is my favorite game in the series.
I’d like to hear other opinions. What game did you like most in the series, and what game did you like least? Which game should I revisit first? Let me know in the comment section below.
